Administrators

Brooke Schmidgall- Director- I joined the Whiz Kidz Academy team as director in October 2013. My husband, two daughters and I relocated back to Illinois from Colorado in 2011. We are happy to be back in Illinois near our family. My husband and I have 2 daughters, ages 2 and 5, who both attend Whiz Kidz Academy. My professional journey began at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. For the past nine years, I worked in Colorado in various Early Childhood positions such as teacher, assistant director and program coordinator. For a year and a half, I worked as an Infant Toddler Specialist at SAL Child Care Connection providing training, resources and support to child care providers that work with children from birth to 3 years of age. It’s rewarding to me to have the wonderful opportunity to build a partnership with the staff and families in order to make continual quality improvements for children at Whiz Kidz.
Jeannie Pasco- I have worked with young children for more than 7 years. I took a 15 year break to raise my daughter and build a career in the cosmetics industry, most recently, Clinique Account Executive. I have always longed to be back to my 1st love, working with children, so I’m thrilled to have this opportunity with Whiz Kidz Academy! I have my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and plan to achieve my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Family is most important to me, so my time off is spent with them and my daughter, who’s 17 and a junior in high school. They all keep me busy and entertained, and we love to swim, work out, watch movies, and shop. I’m currently focused on increasing enrollment at Whiz Kidz and other administrative tasks. The best part of my day is when I get to spend time in the classrooms. I always have a “bag of tricks”, (art activities, books, songs, and more) ready to keep the children engaged and learning. I look forward to running the Summer Camp program in June!
Teachers
Mimi - I have 14 years teaching experience at childcare centers and my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my children and riding motorcycles. My goal in the classroom is to prepare the children for Kindergarten. I’m passionate about teaching the children through play, books, and songs, so that’s incorporated in all my lesson plans.
Hannah Conlin- My teaching experience of 4 months started here at Whiz Kidz Academy. I’m proud to say that I graduated from high school early, so was able to start college ahead of plan. I’m attending classes to earn my degree in Special Education/Elementary Education. When I’m not working, I like to work out, play tennis, watch movies, be outside, and spend time with my family. I believe my biggest asset to the children, that I teach, is having patience and being understanding to children’s individual needs.
Sandra Tennell - I have spent 5 years in a group day care setting and 25 years as a home daycare provider, as well as a foster parent. I have an associate’s degree and many hours of workshops to enlighten my knowledge for preschool children. Outside of work, I spend time encouraging my 5 grandchildren in their many musical, sports, and academic activities. My husband and I enjoy competing in an occasional 5K race. My goal for the classroom is to encourage the little ones in cooperative play. It is amazing how early leadership and compassionate qualities develop and are apparent through their personalities.
Angie Karcher- I’ve worked with children in the daycare/preschool setting, as well as, babysitting for over 10 years now. I graduated from Limestone High School and am very close to achieving my Associates Degree with several Early Childhood Education courses. My time away from work is spent with family. I have a 1 year old son, Sawyer, and an 11 year old son, Landon. I love my mommy time! Aside from that, I like to watch movies, do scrapbooking, baking, playing games, fishing, camping, and boating. I love working with kids, because I love teaching little ones and seeing their faces, when they are learning and having fun!
Cindy Meredith - I have been in the childcare field for 16 years. Being in childcare for as long as I have been, I have attended numerous seminars to accumulate MANY in-service hours. While at home, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren. My goals for the students in my classroom are to provide a safe, fun, and learning atmosphere. I enjoy treating each child as an individual with his/her own special needs and preparing them for Kindergarten. I like to see the children sharing and showing respect for one another and accepting each other for the person they are.
Ellen Smith - Prior to Whiz Kidz, I worked with young children for 11 years as an early intervention aid with TCRC, as well as with school age children for 6 years. Each year I participate in 20 plus hours of in-service, pertaining to child development. One of my favorite past times is reading a variety of books, and I love to read to the children. In the classroom, one of our goals is to keep encouraging the children in learning shapes, colors, and letters. We also want to work on positive peer interactions. I love to hear the words “I DID IT.” They are sharing their accomplishments, and I am proud to be part of it.
Stephanie McCarthy- I have been working with young children for 15 years. I earned my Associates Degree in Child Development in 1996. My free time is spent with my daughter, Penelope. She just joined a tumbling class, which is fun to watch. I do like to read books too, especially ones that help me to continue my education. For me, it’s most rewarding to see a child finally achieve a skill that they’ve worked on for several days.
Cook
Stacey Timke - I worked as an assistant in the infant room, prior to becoming the cook. Outside of work I enjoy participating with my daughter in her Girl Scout troop activities. I try to focus on a menu that follows our food program guidelines, offering fresh fruits and vegetables several times a week. I also focus on keeping the kitchen clean and strive for that 100% health inspection score with the Health Department. I love going into the classrooms to see the children enjoying the food I cook for them. Sometimes the comments they make to me are priceless!
We provide before/after school care for ages 6-12, with busing provided by Pekin School District. Please call us for additional information. When School is out of session, we provide all day care and summer camp.
